A must-visit destination for fans of *The Tale of Genji* across the country.
Opened in Heisei 10, the Tale of Genji Museum uses models and videos to provide an accessible introduction to the world of Hikaru Genji and the “Ten Chapters of Uji.” In addition, the exhibition zones—organized by theme—convey the atmosphere and culture of the era while showcasing the appeal of the *Tale of Genji* through a variety of audiovisual presentations. With a collection of over 5,000 books, visitors can not only view the exhibits but also read the texts themselves and enjoy the stories. Additionally, regular lectures are held as part of the museum’s efforts to help visitors gain a deeper understanding of *The Tale of Genji* and the Heian period.
The Tale of Genji continues to be cherished even after a thousand years. We invite you to experience the charm of The Tale of Genji while letting your imagination wander through the glamorous world of that era.

Area & City/Town Introduction (Uji City)
Uji City is located halfway between Kyoto and Nara, borders cities such as Otsu in Shiga Prefecture, and offers easy access to both Kyoto and Osaka. The Uji River flows through the center of the city, offering a picturesque natural environment. It is also a town rich in historical charm, home to numerous shrines and temples, including the World Heritage Site Byodo-in Temple and Uji-kami Shrine. Its specialty product, “Uji tea,” is widely recognized as a high-quality tea, and recently, sweets made with Uji matcha have also gained popularity.
