Former Yamada Family Residence

Its stately, imposing structure, reminiscent of a samurai residence, evokes the dignity of days gone by.

Registered as a National Tangible Cultural Property on April 28, Heisei 22. It is located in Higashi-Imoarai, in the northeastern part of Kumiyama Town. Although the area has since been reclaimed and bears no trace of its former appearance, it is situated to the southwest of the Oogura Pond reclamation site, which once spanned 16 kilometers in circumference and covered an area of 800 hectares. The Yamada family, known as Hon-Yamada, served as the head of the 13 villages of Omaki Village, acting as the representative of the fishermen of the Yodo River and Ogura Pond. With its imposing structure reminiscent of a samurai residence, the house evokes the prestige of days gone by. The exterior design retains its original appearance, making it a valuable building of architectural, historical, and cultural significance.

Area & City/Town Introduction (Kumiyama Town)

Kumiyama Town

Kumiyama Town is located in the central part of the Yamashiro Basin. It is known for its beautiful scenery, including “Hama-cha” from Sayama Hamadai—which has been designated as a Japan Heritage site—and the Floating Bridge over the Kizu River. At the same time, it is famous for the visually impressive Kumiyama Junction, making it a convenient transportation hub. It is also a town that strikes a balance between agriculture and industry, characterized by a concentration of manufacturing companies and thriving production of agricultural products such as Yodo daikon radishes. There are many attractions, including “Machi no Eki Crosspia Kumiyama,” where you can purchase local specialties, and factory tours of the Coca-Cola plant.
