Ide Town Outdoor Activity Center: Taisho Pond Green Park

Taisho Pond Green Park is one of the largest and most beautiful ponds in Kyoto Prefecture, offering a variety of outdoor activities such as camping and barbecuing. It is also available for group accommodations for sports activities such as baseball and soccer.

Taisho Pond is located at the headwaters of the “Tamagawa” River—one of the “100 Best Waters of the Heisei Era”—and is the largest and most beautiful man-made pond in Kyoto Prefecture, having been designated as a “Cultural Landscape” by the prefecture. Taisho Pond Green Park is an outdoor park centered around Taisho Pond, its surrounding forests, and the satoyama landscape. Although it is not far from the urban areas of Kyoto, Osaka, and Nara, it offers a peaceful and restorative environment rich in forests, water, and the charm of a mountain village.
It is ideal for outdoor recreation such as camping, barbecuing, and kayaking with family and friends; as a rest stop during hikes through the gently rolling mountains of southern Kyoto; for overnight stays; and for group stays organized around sports such as baseball and soccer.

Area & City/Town Introduction (Ide Town)

Ide Town

Ide Town is a small town located between the two ancient capitals of Kyoto and Nara. Although it is in the suburbs—just 15 minutes from Nara Station and 30 minutes from Kyoto Station on the JR Nara Line—a clear, pristine stream flows through the town center, and The embankments on both banks are lined with cherry blossoms, goldenbell flowers, and other seasonal blooms that add color throughout the year. On early summer nights, Genji fireflies dance in the air, preserving a strong sense of the tranquil scenery found in the lush rural hills that surround the town. It is a beautiful town that has long been famous as a subject of poetry, dating back to the Nara period.
