Konjac-Making Workshop

You’ll get to experience the process of turning boiled sweet potatoes into konjac sheets and enjoy the konjac fresh off the press. Each mold makes enough for five blocks (200 g × 5 sheets).
You’re generally welcome to take your konjac home, but you can also sample it on-site. (Advance notice required.)

At “Tennyo no Sato,” a nature-rich village at the foot of Mount Isosuna—the site of Japan’s oldest legend of the Feathered Robe—you can experience making konnyaku using the area’s delicious water.

You’ll experience the process of turning boiled konjac yam into konjac sheets and get to taste the freshly made konjac. Each session allows you to make enough for five blocks (200g × 5 sheets).
While taking your creations home is the standard option, tasting is also available (advance notice required).
There’s no need to worry about rain, so you can enjoy this experience with ease.

Area & City/Town Introduction (Kyotango City)

Kyotango City

Located at the northernmost tip of Kyoto Prefecture, the city’s entire northern coastline faces the Sea of Japan. It is blessed with a diverse natural environment, including the majestic coastal landscapes of the San’in Kaigan Geopark—designated as a UNESCO Global Geopark—as well as beaches with white sand and green pines and beautiful rural woodlands. With a rich culinary culture featuring fresh seafood, agricultural products, and fruits—a culture highly regarded for its quality—the city has garnered attention as a destination for food-focused travel, as evidenced by its receipt of the “Gourmet City Award” in 2024. It is also known as one of the prefecture’s leading hot spring resorts, and as a city where nature, cuisine, hot springs, and history and culture harmonize, it offers a variety of ways to enjoy the area throughout all four seasons.
