Gynostemma Tea Brewing Workshop
You can learn how to brew gyokuro, the finest grade of Japanese tea and a specialty of Kyotanabe City. This engaging experience not only teaches you how to brew tea but also introduces you to its history and interesting facts, helping you develop an even greater appreciation for tea.
The gyokuro brewing experience at the Kyotanabe City Tourist Information Center, “Kyotanabe Gyokuro-an,” is unlike a typical tea experience. The tea used here is Kyotanabe Gyokuro—the finest in Japan, and a source of pride for Kyotanabe City. Not only will you brew and drink gyokuro, but since we use the highest-grade gyokuro tea leaves, you’ll also have the opportunity to taste them. Another highlight is the chance to relax and savor the tea in a space featuring a traditional irori hearth, all under the guidance of our attentive staff.

Area & City/Town Introduction (Kyotanabe City)
Kyotanabe City is a town where nature and history coexist in harmony. Known as one of Japan’s leading producers of “Gyokuro,” a premium tea, the city has nurtured a rich history and culture, home to landmarks such as “Shuon-an Ikkyu-ji”—affectionately known as “Ikkyu’s Temple”—and “Daigodo Kannon-ji,” which houses the National Treasure, the Standing Eleven-Faced Kannon Statue. It is also a vibrant city home to Doshisha University. In April of Reiwa 8, the “Spiral View Terrace,” designed by world-renowned architect Kengo Kuma, was completed on Mount Kananbi. We invite you to experience the charm of Kyotanabe—a blend of traditional elegance and modern appeal.
