Area & City/Town Introduction (Wazuka Town)
Wazuka Town, the main production area for Uji tea, is home to the “satoyama”—a traditional Japanese rural landscape of mountains and valleys—where villages are scattered throughout the valleys at the foot of the mountains, through which clear streams flow. The tea leaves produced in Wazuka Town account for about half of all tea produced in Kyoto Prefecture, and due to their quality, they are considered one of the nation’s premier high-grade teas.
In addition to Wazuka tea, painstakingly cultivated by local tea farmers, visitors can enjoy tea-picking experiences, tea-brewing workshops, walks through the tea fields, tours of “power spots” said to feature trees over 1,300 years old, and sweets made with Wazuka tea.
We also recommend the “Green Slow Mobility” tour, where a knowledgeable driver takes you in an electric vehicle to the beautiful tea fields of Ishidera while providing commentary on Wazuka Town’s history and tea cultivation, as well as exploring the area by rental bicycle.
At Yubune MTB LAND, where you can enjoy mountain biking through vast forested hills, there are courses suitable for beginners, and bicycles and other equipment are available for rent.
We have a wide variety of experiential activities available. Please come visit “Wazuka, the Land of Tea.”
